Housing Benefit will help towards the cost of your rent and may be available to those on certain benefits or on a low income; Housing Benefit is managed by the the Local Authority.

To simplify the payment of your rent and make it easier for you to manage your money, you can ask that Housing Benefit is paid directly to your landlord.

The housing benefit form is very important, so if you need help with filling in the form please let us know. Also, to make sure that it doesn't go missing, you should think about returning it by:

• Delivering it by hand and obtaining a receipt
• Posting it by recorded delivery
• Asking us to deliver it for you, but still ask for a receipt.

Changes to your circumstances

A lot of problems are caused by people failing to inform the Local Authority about any changes in their personal or financial circumstances. You may be entitled to more or less benefit depending on the changes to your life, but it is important that any changes are immediately reported so that serious problems are avoided further down the road.

Make sure you inform the Local Authority about:

• Changes in your income
• Changes in your savings
• People coming to live with you
• People leaving your household
• Children reaching the age of 18.

Filling in forms can be exhausting, but it is the only way to make sure that you are getting what you are entitled to, so always try to provide requested information as soon as possible.
