Festive joy at Taverners Court

Elderly residents at Taverners Court in Llandudno were treated to a nativity play at their home by young pupils from nearby Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn.

Fifteen 8 to 11 year olds visited the North Wales Housing-operated sheltered housing scheme where a temporary stage area was set up for the young play actors. Dressed in their nativity outfits, a full festive performance was given to residents from the comfort of their armchairs.

The children also danced and sang songs which residents where happy to join in with. North Wales Housing’s Paula Smith organised the event following the success of last years staging.

She said:

We’re so pleased that the school has visited us again this year with their performance of the nativity.”

“It’s wonderful to see both generations interacting with each other and is clearly enjoyable for the residents many whom don’t have their family at this time of year. “

Resident Hefina Jones stated:

It was great entertainment and we all really enjoyed the performance and we thank the children for the time and effort that has gone into it. It was also lovely to hear the children sing a new Welsh carol which has been composed by one of the teachers”.

Teacher Mr Gwyn Williams stated:

This is a wonderful opportunity for the children and nobody says it better than Bing Crosby – Unless we make Christmas an occasion to share our blessings, all the snow in Alaska won’t make it ‘white’.

Following the performance the children spent time sat with residents chatting as they all enjoyed their festive mince pies and refreshments provided by Scheme Warden, Sue Gough. Sue said:

What a lovely afternoon! It was a pleasure to have the children of Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn at Taverners Court. It was a lovley build up for Christmas and residents thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone for making it special”

It is hoped that the school will continue to visit Taverners Court and are planning a return visit for St.Davids Day.
