What is Sheltered Housing?

Sheltered Housing gives residents the opportunity to live somewhere with their own front door and keep their independence, but have the security of help and advice at hand when needed.

Sheltered accommodation consists of properties that have been designed or adapted to meet the support needs of elderly or vulnerable people.  There are several different property types, mainly these are one bedroom flats although there are some two bedroom flats and a few bungalows, but the common factor to all of them is that they are all linked to a 24 hour alarm system and most have a door entry system.

Some of the properties are in blocks with a mix of general needs residents whilst others are specifically for clients over the age of 55 or 60.   These Sheltered Housing Schemes have On-Site support available in the form of a Scheme Warden Monday to Friday (9am – 5 pm).   They will arrange regular contact and support with the resident to meet individual need; to enable them to live independently in their home.  If on duty they will also respond to alarm calls.

Support needs are reviewed at least annually and the Warden is also responsible for the day to day management of the scheme.

When the Warden is not on duty emergency calls are taken by Warden Call System who will respond appropriately.

Communal facilities on the schemes may include Lounges, Kitchens, Guest Suite, Laundry and Garden Areas.

Extra Care Housing could be the key to independent living with care. It is suitable for you if you are over 60 and want to continue to live independently.

We welcome residents with a range of needs, from those who require a little extra security, reassurance or help or care, to those who are very frail and will benefit fully from all the services we can offer.

You will be supported in a way that enables you to stay independent for longer. You can move in as a single person or with your partner, and will have your own apartment. There will be guest room facilities so that your family and friends can visit.

Ultimately, it is your own home, and you remain in control of your finances, privacy, structure of your day, in short…everything that you value.  We’re just here to give you the Extra Care to help you do it.
