Carols and baubles from ysgol maelgwyn bring festive sparkle to housing association

Young pupils from Ysgol Maelgwyn in Llandudno Junction have taken part in an all-school Christmas competition to design and produce the best festive decoration.

Over 100 pupils took part in the Christmas Decoration challenge, set by North Wales Housing, that saw a huge array of colourful designs produced and submitted for the competition. The offices of North Wales Housing sit almost opposite Ysgol Maelgwyn in Plas Blodwel, and the school challenge has been a great opportunity for the two to come together at Christmas.

Chief Executive of North Wales Housing, Paul Diggory, judged the decorations and was delighted with the results. He said:

“What a brilliant, imaginative and creative bunch of decorations! I am incredibly impressed by the ideas submitted, making it really difficult to choose a winning four.”

Winners were chosen from four different age groups and presented with a give voucher by Paul.

As part of the wider festive celebrations, the school choir visited North Wales Housing’s head office, Plas Blodwel, and sang hymns to an audience of staff, parents and teachers. The Christmas tree lights were officially switched on by former board member Alice Robinson, and a host of Christmas characters including Father Christmas and Rudolf made a surprise appearance to the delight of the children

Paul added:

“This has turned out to be a really lovely Christmas event. The pupils have made huge efforts with their creations, made better still by their visit here to help mark the turning of our lights. To have so many youngsters in our front garden singing their hearts out was a real treat for all of our staff here and I’d like to thank everyone who helped organise this fantastic event.”
