Taste of success for staff learning Welsh

A number of North Wales Housing staff were recently shortlisted at the fourth Welsh for Adults Awards Ceremony.

Julie Jones (Personnel Officer), Karen Johnson (Business Systems Analyst), Allan Jones/ Yam Yam (Repairs) and Ged Butters (Manager Rakes and Ladders) were shortlisted having been nominated by their Welsh tutor Rhian Oldroyd.

Families, friends and tutors joined learners at a ceremony at Y Galeri in Caernarfon at the end of May, to celebrate the achievements and be presented with their awards.

Julie Jones, Personnel Officer, won the Foundation level:

“I was so surprised when I found out I had won. I was also extremely pleased. Learning languages can be difficult, and the lessons are challenging. But I think it’s important that we learn so I can speak with my colleagues and the customers in their language of choice.”

The ‘Tutor of the Year’ award was also presented to Rhian Oldroyd, the tutor for North Wales Housing’s Welsh classes.  This is the second year in a row Rhian has won.

Congratulations everyone who were shortlisted and won.
