Tŷ Blodwel: Office Space Transformed into Energy-Efficient Homes
North Wales Housing (NWH) is delighted to announce the completion of the transformation of Tŷ Blodwel, an underused office building, into two high-quality, energy-efficient apartments.
Situated within the grounds of Plas Blodwel, a Grade II listed building, the project was carefully designed to preserve the character of the original structure.
Made possible through the Welsh Government’s Transitional Accommodation Capital Programme (TACP), the apartments will provide long-term housing solutions for those in need, including transitioning from temporary accommodation.
Sustainability was central to the project, incorporating energy-efficient features such as a Mitsubishi inverter heat pump for heating and cooling, an Ariston immersion heater supported by photovoltaic panels for hot water, and external wall insulation to enhance thermal comfort and reduce energy bills. The apartments have also achieved the Secure by Design Gold standard, ensuring a safe and secure living environment.
Lauren Eaton-Jones, Assistant Director of Development at NWH, said:
“Post-COVID, many organisations have adopted more agile ways of working, resulting in reduced demand for office accommodation. At NWH, we identified an opportunity to put an underused building adjacent to our head office to much better use by creating homes. Thanks to Welsh Government’s TACP funding, we’ve converted Tŷ Blodwel into two fantastic apartments.
“During a housing crisis, every new home matters. While this project adds just two homes, it means two fewer households living in temporary accommodation. We are grateful to our partners for delivering this project on a tight timeline. We look forward to welcoming the new occupants and hope they enjoy their new homes.”
North Wales Housing extends its thanks to our dedicated project delivery team, including NWPS Construction Ltd, Saer Architects, AEJ Construction Services Ltd, UCML Utilities Consultants, IE Engineering, and Design in Safety.
