North Wales Housing are extremely pleased to have signed the This is Housing pledge, showing our support to the campaign by CHCymru.
Community Housing Cymru, with the help of housing associations across Wales, launched a campaign called ‘This is Housing’ to celebrate the ambitious housing sector and the fantastic career opportunities it brings.
Helena Kirk, Chief Executive said:
“We have signed the pledge because we believe a career in housing is extremely rewarding and makes a big difference to many people’s lives. Together we want to give a voice to the sector and promote the breadth of roles available”

In March we carried out a tenant survey. Carried out by an external company, the survey was sent out to all North Wales Housing tenants. We wanted to find out what you thought about all areas of NWH, from your home, repairs and the service we provide.
Thank you to all of you who completed the survey. We are now pleased to share the results with you in this Residents Summary Report.

NWH Chief Executive Helena Kirk signed the Time to Change pledge on Friday 2nd October, formalising our commitment to change the way we think and act about mental health at work.
Helena explained:
“Signing up to the Time to Change Wales Pledge demonstrates our organisation commitment to creating a workplace free from mental health stigma and discrimination, to change the way we think and act about mental health at work.
We want to make it commonplace for employees to say “I’m struggling”, “I’m working too much” or “I need support” in the workplace without the fear of negative consequences.”
As most of our waking hours are spent at work, our working environment can play a big part in our health and wellbeing. This year has been particularly challenging, and NWH recognise this and have invested time in the health and wellbeing of staff as part of their People Strategy.
Lynne Williams, Head of People explained:
“We have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing group that promotes health and wellbeing to staff in a fun and engaging way. We want staff to take care of themselves, so they can be the best versions of themselves.
We have also invested in training relating to this; 37 staff are now iact trained Managers, giving them the tools to help manage and promote positive mental health in the workplace.”
However NWH recognise that there’s a lot more to do, and the signing of the pledge is only the next step in their journey.
It’s that time of year again, the time for the Annual General Meeting where shareholders come together to discuss Governance matters. This year will be the first time the meeting will be held online due to Covid-19.

Catherine Dixson was appointed North Wales Housing’s new Group Board Chair this January following a vigorous interview process which included being interviewed by a panel of tenants.
Catherine is Chief Executive of Muir Group Housing Association based in Chester.
She previously worked at GreenSquare as Executive Director (Organisational Development & Corporate Services) in Wiltshire and prior to that as Director of Business Support with Synergy Housing based in Dorset.
Catherine has many years’ experience in housing and working for a local authority in education, social services and the fire and rescue service.
Commenting on her appointment, Catherine said:
“I’m delighted to have been appointed Chair. It’s an exciting time to be joining the organisation as it explores its future strategy, growth and development opportunities. I look forward to meeting and working with everyone and making a positive contribution to North Wales Housing’s future”
Work has progressed extremely well at our Canada Gardens development in Holyhead, and we hope that 15 out of the 25 houses and flats will be completed and handed over in May 2020.
We recently visited the site with one our funders, Principality. The progress on site since our last visit was amazing and we can really see the end in sight!

North Wales Housing were 45 years old this year; a great achievement in the housing sector.
A tree was planted at the front of Plas Blodwel to celebrate.

The Residents’ Advisory Panel had its last meeting in its current form in July 2019, and has now merged with the Landlord Services Committee. This new group is called the Tenants and Communities Panel, a combination of RAP members and Board members, meeting every two months.
Why merge?
- Reduce duplication from the two groups
- Ensure more representation of views from tenants
- Strengthening the role of tenants within our governance structure
Overall Role of the new Tenants & Communities Panel
- Scrutinise and review how effectively the Corporate Plan and strategies are translated into action and performance for customers and communities.
- Scrutinise services, ensuring that the voice of residents is heard and their needs are met.
- It will address the continuous improvement of operational policies and procedures and the opportunities for customer access to services, customer feedback and customer led scrutiny.

North Wales Housing held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday 12th September 2019. Staff, Board members and shareholders came together at the annual event.
The Annual Review 2018 – 2019 was revealed at the event; the review is a great opportunity to look back at the year and its achievements.
Highlights from the year include a ‘Standard’ regulatory judgement, the completion of Nant Eirias development in Colwyn Bay, the start of Canada Gardens in Holyhead as well as many tenant engagement opportunities such as the ‘Opening doors to the outdoors’ project.
Tom Murtha, Group Chair, took the opportunity to thank stakeholders, staff and Board members at the ATM for their contribution to the year.
