NWHA shining a spotlight on local youth performers

Maes-G ShowZone is a volunteer-led community youth performing arts company that emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community.

Established in 2020, during the Coronavirus crisis, where children and young people had suffered seclusion, decreasing mental health, and low self-esteem, they aim to bring them together again, to reach for the stars, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

At North Wales Housing, we recognise the transformative power of the arts in promoting well-being and confidence-building. That’s why we lent our support to Maes G Showzone through the Community Fund, assisting them to produce a booklet for their members so they know what to expect before they get to the theatre.

Eirian Williams Roberts, Maes G ShowZone Co-founder and director, said:

“We’re grateful to North Wales Housing for their help in getting this booklet printed. Over 70% of our members are either diagnosed neurodiverse or are on the pathway awaiting diagnosis so this booklet is going to be so useful to put them at ease as to what to expect.

Now they can turn to the booklet, day or night, if they just want to read over it again to gain some reassurance as to what they will see and do once we get to the theatre. This funding has made a massive difference to our young people.

Every child who walks through our doors is given everything they need to be able to participate to the fullest extent and we ensure that cost is not a barrier.”

Every child who attends is able to participate fully as they are provided with a kit bag and water bottle for rehearsals, jazz shoes for studio runs and shows. And now a booklet.

Iwan Evans, NWHA’s Resident Participation Co-Ordinator, said:

“We commend Maes G ShowZone for their dedication to fostering a positive environment where young talent can shine, and we are looking forward to witnessing the positive impact of this initiative in the local community.”
