What our staff think

There’s no better way to find out what it’s like to work at North Wales Housing than to hear it from people who work for us already.

Helen Williams

Senior Development Officer

My passion for Housing started at a young age with my first work experience at High school being in an Estate Agents! I enjoyed 8 years working in Estate Agency but knew that I wanted more of a challenging career in a technical field, the Build Environment. I applied for University in 2010 as a mature student to study a HNC in Surveying and was pleasantly surprised with an acceptance from Liverpool John Moores. I applied for a temporary position in North Wales Housing as a maintenance scheduler, and explained my scenario of attending University one full day per week. The Association were fully supportive and agreed that I could work flexibly. Being a part time student, working and juggling family life with young children came with its challenges but it is possible, dedication and planning is key! Having an employer that was supportive and allowed flexibility helped immensely.

From there I excelled with my studies, achieving my HNC in 2012 and progressing to a 1st class degree in Construction Management in 2015. By gaining knowledge within my degree, I was able to apply transitional skills into my workplace and step into different job roles such as affordable homes administrator, development support, Asset Management Surveyor and in 2018, I joined the Development team. I am now Senior Development Officer and in the final stages of progressing with CIOB (Chartered Institute of Builders) Membership.

My job role includes identifying new development opportunities and delivering projects from inception through to completion. I am predominantly office based, but regularly attend site meetings with project teams, and provide client representation, meeting with other consultants and stakeholders. It gives such a sense of achievement to handover properties which will improve people’s lives and our communities.

There are so many various roles in the Housing Sector and I have loved every minute of progressing and learning new aspects of Social and Affordable Housing. We really do make a difference, whether its answering the phone and resolving a tenant’s query or providing quality new homes for local people.
