The benefits of going digital
As the lead for digital at North Wales Housing, I am always shouting about the virtues of doing more things digitally.
Here are a few key reasons:
- It is estimated that a household could save an average of £560 a year just by being online;
- As technology has become more mainstream, it has also become more affordable;
- Online services can enable 24/7 availability of key services to tenants.
At North Wales Housing, we are on our own digital journey…
Along with a group of tenants, we have been able to review, refresh and relaunch ‘My NWH’, the award winning tenants portal, where tenants can log in and do things like check their rent account, update their contact details or order a repair, anytime of the day or night. This is a real ‘additional’ offer to our tenants.
Not that we want to rest on our laurels though. We have plans to further improve My NWH by offering a wider range of services through the portal, as well as further improving the tenant experience. This is combined with us looking to reduce the number of tenants who are digitally excluded, by offering digital training sessions, as well as looking to develop a group of tenants as digital champions.
We’ve also recently employed a Digital Officer. Sioned Williams, who has worked on many Welsh Government’s digital inclusion projects, joined us in October 2016 to make our digital journey a little bit easier. She will be working with residents and staff, tailoring activities to their needs.
