Crochet hobby raises hundreds of pounds for poppy appeal

Mrs Liliana Owen has taken her hobby to another level, having crocheted and sold 124 poppies in aid of the Poppy Appeal this November, raising hundreds of pounds.

What started out as a distraction for 91 year old Liliana, crocheting poppies for her fellow-residents at extra care development Llys y Coed in Llanfairfechan, unexpectedly took off.

Mrs Liliana Owen explains:

It all happened by accident. I was doing poppies for residents and someone suggested I sold them to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

They become really popular, I started receiving orders for 10 at a time from family and friends from all over! They didn’t take me long, and I had help from my fellow resident Mrs Eirwen Hughes.”

Liliana is constantly crocheting for a good cause, sending her creations to many charities such as Cancer Research UK to sell on to fundraise. She also supplies the premature baby unit in Bangor Hospital with clothing for the tiny babies born.

I really enjoy crocheting and I’m just so glad I was able to do something to help the appeal and help us remember.”
