Board shuffle for North Wales Housing

North Wales Housing has appointed three new Non-Executive Directors to serve on its Group Board as part of an overall review of its governance. New members David Jones, Susan Miller and Mark Richardson will take up their roles in January following a recruitment campaign carried out by the Llandudno Junction-based housing association.

Effective governance is essential for a company like North Wales Housing, employing around 200 people and with a turnover of £13 million and a significant development programme. In 2014 the company undertook a detailed review of their governance and developed a new approach and structure which sees a Group Board overseeing the strategic direction, business and financial management of the organisation.

Peter Gibson, Group Chair is confident that this change will strengthen North Wales Housing’s performance.

“The review we carried out was comprehensive. Existing Board members could see the need for change and the potential value to the business of strengthening our membership, which shows great professionalism. The new Group Board will take the core of its membership from the current Board but the new members will no doubt bring new perspectives and a new energy to the business. I’m very much looking forward to what will be the start of a new era for North Wales Housing.”

Paul Diggory, North Wales Housing Chief Executive is equally enthusiastic, adding:

“North Wales Housing has grown in recent years and has become a more complex business as we’ve sought to deliver in different ways. Good governance has therefore become even more important. We need a Group Board with vision, who can be both challenging and supportive, depending on the requirements.”

All three of the newly appointed members are local, but each has career experience that extends well beyond Wales.

Paul adds:

“The new members bring a range of skills to us, varying from business management and compliance, social enterprise and banking and financial services. These skills will supplement those we already have and help take our governance to a higher level.”
